EMRTC started in SGPGIMS

Lucknow:The department of Nephrology and renal transplantation of Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow is known for providing service to patients suffering from all forms of kidney diseases, not only from the state but also from neighbouring states Bihar, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, and neighbouring countries Nepal and Bangladesh.
Today the Department of Nephrology has set a new milestone and shifted to the new Emergency and Renal Transplant center, a dream project of the Government of Uttar Pradesh. The EMRTC building was inaugurated by Shri Yogi Aditya Nath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on 8th January 2022. Gradually the shifting process was started and now the department of Nephrology has completely shifted to this center. The centre is equipped with 97 general and private beds, 111 dialysis centers with most advanced system of the reverse osmosis water plant, along with a central distribution system ( CDS) of dialysate, which is unique, and the only government institute in India has this facility. Prof Prasad said dialysis will be provided in 2 to 3 shifts with the availability of manpower for the same.
The center has two top-class operation theatres equipped with facilities for digital Substation angiography(DSA) and C-arm, that will be used for the treatment of vascular access failure, thrombectomy, and Arteriovenous fistuloplasty. This is the only center that provides such treatment. The department has started the course in Intervention nephrology, which is unique to the institute and only public sector institute which provides a post-doctoral certificate course in Intervention Nephrology. There was a strong need for this process in the state, with the launch of the Pradhan Mantri Dialysis Program at the district level, and as the requirement of the number of cases for vascular intervention increased and the patients were bound to come to SGPGI for the treatment of AVF failure.
Another operation theatre will be used for making AVF, placing the jugular catheter, and subcutaneous tunneled catheter for vascular access to patients requiring dialysis. This is the only center that provides slow continuous renal replacement therapy to very sick patients. The urology department of EMRTC has world-class 6 OTs which will be used for renal transplantation purposes. At present, this is the only major center in the public sector hospitals which provides renal transplantation, even the most difficult highly sensitized renal transplantation with different blood groups.
Today, Prof. R.K. Dhiman, Director, SGPGI, inaugurated another ward, dialysis unit, and operation theatres of the department. He encouraged the staff of the Nephrology and Dialysis unit for the outstanding contribution in starting the EMRTC in a short span of time. Prof. Narayan Prasad, Head of the Department of Nephrology, and all faculties of the department of Nephrology were present during the commencement function. Prof Dhiman, the director, and HOD Narayan Prasad thanked the Govt of UP for providing such an excellent infrastructure for patients with kidney diseases.
